Murphy McManus enters strategic partnership to develop The Ignite Institute for Individualized Health

Murphy McManus, LLC has entered a strategic partnership to lead the real estate development of The Ignite Institute for Individualized Health in Fairfax, Virginia. The Institute, led by internationally renowned geneticist Dietrich Stephan, PhD, will encompass a 300,000 square foot campus where up to 500 scientists from around the world will focus on creating and applying the latest genomic, biomedical and technological innovations to facilitate truly personalized health care, customized to each patient's genetic profile.

"Given the complexity of this endeavor and the critical timelines involved, we clearly wanted a real estate partner with deep experience in life sciences and the construction of state-of-the-art research facilities," said Dr. Stephan. "Murphy McManus' proven record in effectively and efficiently directing complex life science projects made them stand out. Their executives are fully engaged in this project and bring valuable perspective and creativity to the real estates challenges we are facing."

Announced Monday by Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine, The Ignite Institute is a unique public/private initiative. Earlier this year, Dr. Stephan had estimated the construction and start-up costs of this nonprofit research institute to be approximately 250 million dollars. Governor Kaine affirmed that the Commonwealth of Virginia is providing $25 million in support of this innovative health care venture. Several private entities have already contributed as well. Inova Health Systems, George Mason University and George Washington University have each provided financial support toward the operational design and planning of the Institute. Additional partners are expected in the coming months.

As Owner's Representative, Murphy McManus will be directing all aspects of The Institute's real estate development, from site selection and site acquisition, to permitting and design, to construction and commissioning of both the interim and permanent sites. Nancy J. Kelley will be leading the effort on behalf of Murphy McManus.

"We are delighted to join Ignite in the development of this revolutionary facility," stated Robert Murphy, principal of Murphy McManus. "It is an honor to partner with an outstanding institution such as Ignite to achieve this compelling mission."
